The quality of teaching is a continual focus for us and that is one of the reasons we have become an outstanding school.

Teachers have high expectations of students of all levels and are constantly looking to improve the way they teach so that students can continue to reach their potential. The best way to get a feel of our school is to come, see us in action and spend some time with our staff and students. Why Oshwal Academy Mombasa Junior School

An environment that provides the best possible opportunity for learning.

Our approach is based on the knowledge that parents are entrusting the most important part of their children’s lives to the school. It isn’t an overstatement to say that Junior School will become a second home, a place where strong relationships are formed and defining moments are experienced. Making sure that the environment is safe and happy is our top priority.

Our expectations of our students are high and their achievements are reflective of this. Our teachers care, give their best, go the extra mile and are wholehearted in their commitment to their students. Rest assured that your child’s particular strengths and weaknesses will be recognised and understood and that he or she will be supported and challenged.

And because education is much more than exams, we recognise the major contribution made by music, sport, adventure and so many other activities that contribute to your children’s development.

We are proud of the close relationships we develop between home and school as we work together with our parents to ensure our students are able to make the best possible progress. We encourage our community to regularly come in and talk to us about students’ learning, their well-being and general development.

Starting school for the first time or joining us later on

We make every effort to ensure that students who join our school are welcomed, well-looked after and monitored so that they quickly make friends and can find their way around the school. Teachers give children time to settle in before making an assessment of their academic abilities. This assessment, together with records from their previous school, enables children to have the best start in our school. We also encourage consistent communication and meetings with parents and careers to make your child’s transition smooth and rewarding.

Assessment and Reporting to Parents

Teachers keep track of students’ progress through continuous formal and informal assessments; including but not limited to; mastery learning points. They keep anecdotal records, both hard copy and in SIMS. These reflect each student’s progress of each concept covered. There are no examinations at the end of term one and two but reporting is done based on the continuous assessment attainments and mastery learning assessments.

Summative assessments done at the end of third term compliment the continuous assessments and also consolidate the learning covered throughout the academic year. Our students proceed to middle school after Year 6. Reports are issued to parents at the end of phase 1 which runs from August to February and end of phase 2 which starts in mid-February to June.
